What is acne?

Acne is a very common skin condition that occurs when the pores of your skin get clogged with bacteria, sebum( oil), dead skin, and hair. Acne breakouts can lead to discoloration, scarring, and dark spots. When you pop a pimple, you are at risk of scarring so try to avoid squeezing no matter how tempting it feels.

Types of acne


  1. whiteheads: They are bumps closed by sebum and dead skin.

  2. blackheads:These bumps are usually opened and filled with oils and dead skin.Most times blackheads leads to dark spots.

  3. Papules:These are small pinkish or red inflamed Acne is a very common skin condition that occurs when the pores of your skin get clogged with bacteria, sebum( oil),dead skin and hair.

  4. Pustules: These are bumps containing pus, they look like whiteheads and can cause scarring if popped or picked.

  5. Nodles: These are large and solid pimples which are deep in the skin.

  6. cyst: They are large and filled with pus, if not properly taken care of, they turn to scars.

Factors that tend to worsen acne are:

  • Stress

  • genetics

  • cigarette smoking

  • poor sleep

  • skincare products with high oil content

  • picking you face and using dirty towels

  • PCOS

  • Birth control pills

  • hormonal changes due to pregnancy , menstruation and puberty.

Acne has three stages;

  1. mild( few pimples).

  2. moderate( inflammation, multiple pimples ).

  3. severe( cyst ,inflamed nodules).
