Once upon a time, there lived a very young girl called Agnes who lives with her grandmother in a poor village. She was abandoned by her mother after her dad died. Her mom ran away leaving her to suffer.

One day, Agnes was coming back from the local store in the market. She often goes there to help out so that the people would give her food in return. While she was walking home, she met a blind old man who sitting on the floor crying for help because he couldn't move on his own. She walked towards him and asked “Where do you live” and he replied “ I live behind the market square, please take me home” he pleaded with her.

She took his hands, helped him up and took him home without being bothered by the distance.

When they got to his house, he thanked her and asked if she needed something.

Agnes has been taught contentment by her grandmother and didn't think she needed anything.

“No, I'm fine. I'll take my leave now” she said and as she was about to leave, he stopped her and said “Thank you so much, young girl, I have a gift for you. Please look behind my cupboard and take whatever you see there”

“No, you don't have to give me anything. Grandma said I should help without expecting anything in return” she said but he kept insisting so she decided to look behind the cupboard.

She saw a pair of shoes, surprisingly they seemed to be her size but they looked very dirty and is already peeling off. She picked them up without complaint and thanked the man.

“Enjoy the special shoes” he said and she left. On getting home, she explained the situation to her grandmother and expressed her concerns about the shoes.

“ My Child, not all that glitters is gold. Why don't you wash it and see how it looks after that”. Agnes took the shoes, washed and dried them up.

The next day, she puts them on and in just a few minutes, people started to gift her and her grandmother food, money and valuable items. In a few hours, they were already gifted a car and a beautiful house.

Agnes was shocked beyond words. Her grandmother already knew it was as a result of the shoes and told Agnes to cherish the shoes with her life. From that day, they became very rich and Agnes didn't stop helping people.

Agnes’s Good heart, contentment and humility changed their lives.
